I normally would not review my local grocery store but today I am outraged! Shopped there for 3 years as live round the corner and today for the first time I got challenged by a member of staff I never saw before when I was buying a bottle of wine. I had no form of ID on me, why would I, it’s my local?! Anyhow, I’m 32 and offered to show my NHS ID (that has a photo by the way), not interested. Manager said he would not have challenge me but the law is the law and he has to respect the subjective view of his colleague (who kept calling me ‘dear’, inappropriate. Bit of a cop out when how about ‘training is training’? This is what the Challenge 25 says: On very rare occasions, some people that are considerably older than 25 are challenged. This can be because of a number of reasons, such as a licensing condition or staff taking an overly cautious approach to challenges. Once a challenge has been made the decision will be backed up by management to ensure that shop staff are not undermined and continue to have confidence challenging people. Retailers welcome feedback on how the scheme is operating and therefore those that believe the policy is being enforced unreasonably should report this to the store in question so that they can consider whether the operation and training is being delivered as it should be.
I suggest Waitrose reviews their unreasonable approach and how ‘rare’ these challenge occasions for those over 30 actually happen in this store and train staff. Won’t be shopping in this branch, hello M&S! As for the staff member,#shouldhavegonetospecsavers

I visited Waitrose Chiswick to pick up an order and this was a mixed experience for me. The location of Waitrose Chiswick is convenient and the store looks good. I didn't have to wait long to be given my order by a member of staff and she was professional. But the member of staff on duty at the self service tills was rude to me yet again and I believe he needs to be given some customer service training by Waitrose. Yes, my experience of Waitrose Chiswick today was mixed.

Lovely to at last get back here. Staff delightful and its a pleasure to meet cashiers who wish to interact with staff. What a pity I've had to wait for a year or more to shop here and avoid queuing.

April 2022: shopping for a few kosher items for Passover and was disappointed to discover they no longer stock any. The staff member who I asked didn't know what kosher products were so asked a colleague who, after informing me that they no longer had any, very kindly informed them what I was looking for. A nice touch. Certainly I wouldn't k ow what is specially used/bought for Diwali or Ramadan so it nice to see staff training in action.

Medium sized Waitrose on Chiswick High Street. This Waitrose has a decent amount of selection and availability is pretty good. Prices may be a little higher than others but not too bad. It always seems to be busy and Does feel a little cramped. Check out is efficient and queues are low and at a minimal. Good help from staff as well.
