BEWARE!

Took my mountain bike there for a brakes/gears service prior to the London to Brighton off road. During the ride I found that the front brake pads had come loose because the split pin that is meant to hold them in place had fallen out.

This means that either they didnt reopen the pin when reconstructing the brakes or didnt actually even put it back in.

Either way, if the pads had jammed in the rotor, I could have had a catastrophic accident. As it was I had to cycle 10km with no front brakes to get to a mechanic who did a temporary fix to allow me to finish.

When I went back to East Street Cycles the attitude was awful. No interest in what had happened and what MIGHT have happened. Comments like "I dont know anything about bikes" (yes really), "We need to inspect it" (you need to inspect something that isn't there??).

After standing my ground the bloke eventually gave me a refund stating "I dont get paid enough for this"......

Bloody awful. There are a couple of decent blokes in that shop but the lack of concern and lack of professionalism is astounding. I've never really liked the place but like to buy locally if I can. But I'll make an exception in this case and go to Evans in Kingston as they have helped me out in the past and not even charged!

Perhaps ESC can learn from them....

Gone massively downhill since the last time I or my partner used them. Was made to feel that an issue with a bike was my fault and another member of staff dismissed my choice of frame (not a manufacturer they stocked coincidentally). Rude staff and poor workmanship, the search for a decent local bike shop goes on. I should have asked where all the mechanics that used to work there have gone.

Very helpful and knowledgeable people. Especially grateful that they sorted out a puncture I got riding my new bike home. Also serviced our second bike.

Just picked up my new Trek Powerfly from Gary, Rob and the guys at East Street and I cant praise them highly enough. They had plenty of demo bikes to help me make the right choice for my riding style, advice on all aspects of the purchase.
A friendly and help shop with a great bunch of guys that made spending my hard earned money an absolute pleasure.
I would always pop in and ask them about all aspects of mountain biking. Cheers boys.

5 Stars for Gary and the guys at East Street Cycles. We wanted to try an e-bike for my Wife who has MS. Gary offered his own partner’s bike for my wife to test for a few hours to see how we got on. My wife loved it, and in less than 2 days she was out on the tracks on her own brand new one. Sadly her new found passion has left me panting my way to the top of most of the hills that she just glides up, so yesterday, after Gary loaned me a brand new “demo” e-bike - I too have deserted to the dark side and bought one too. If you want great service, advice and banter - I can thoroughly recommend these guys.

The young man who I spoke to was really helpful and when I said I could not collect and asked them to post it he offered to deliver the items on the way home. I really appreciate that and the fact they have always given excellent advice. Thank you Kareen

Dropped in this morning for new brake pads whilst doing King Alfred Trail. All resolved quickly and a reasonable price.
