I've always had a hankering for a Brompton and decided to pay a visit to the Bike Shed in Exeter as I had bought bikes off of them before and had been happy with the advice and aftercare. Being a niche product the Brompton requires a sales assistant who is clued up in the eccentricities of this folding bicycle and I was lucky that the Bike Shed had just the man, Bill, who funnily enough had sold me my last bike probably 14 years ago! A Brompton rider himself he provided me with all the information I required to make an informed choice on the best model and sizing that I needed. The test ride clinched the deal and thanks to Ben at The Bike Shed I now own a fun little bike and an icon of British engineering!

This is a nice looking shop with plenty of high end bikes, parts, accessories and clothing. They need to work on their click and collect experience though. I placed an online order and received an email saying it was ready to collect so walked into town to get it. Upon arrival there was someone having a smoke outside so I held my breath, walked past and tried to work out where I needed to go. I walked past an empty checkout and then found a manned one at the other end of the store but it was the service desk and was busy. After hanging round a few minutes someone came over to help. They seemed to have no record of the order I had been notified was ready as the web orders are seemingly done on some automated system. After a while I left them to it and wondered around the shop. Eventually a guy found me and nervously / reluctantly? handed me the item and showed me a hand written scrap of paper with my details on. Maybe I was their first ever click and collect? I heard them saying something about the online system saying they had one in stock so the online people would have to replace their stock so they had to give me the one they had. I left the shop feeling liked I'd robbed them, or at least like they felt they'd been robbed of stock.

I had an issue with my rear wheel. Andy and Danesh were really helpful and sorted my problem out within minutes. Friendly staff, great service and quality stock in store. I recommend this store highly!

Fantastic service. Very knowledgable staff and would fully recommend to anybody looking to buy a good quality bike. Being able to "try on" the bikes is a game changer as branding and sizing is complicated... Much like woman's clothing! The new Exeter store is a shining example of why we need to support our local stores.

Well impressed.

Recently purchased the Trek FX3 disc from the Exeter store, along with a good few other accessories.

Brilliant selection of high quality stock and was delighted to get a test ride on the bike before buying it.

Staff are very helpful when giving advice, as well as explaining how certain aspects of bikes work - special thanks to Bill for greatly assisting me with my purchase!

Note: I had called the store up first to ask about the FX3. After finding that they had a model in Barnstaple, we agreed on having it delivered to Exeter in a week or-so and they'd let me know when it arrived.

After a bit over a week, I called back to see if it arrived, which it did, and they apologised for not letting me know. That was really the only tiny inconvenience I encountered - but honestly you'd be immensely lucky to find a store that doesn't make such mistakes sometimes!

I'm planning on bringing the bike in for the free servicing in a month or two.

Once again, big thanks to the BikeShed staff and I hope to come back there many more times.

A proper bike shop with expert advice. I was given superb service today by Denes when expressing an interest in buying an e bike. He, like the rest of the staff, was helpful, knowledgeable and did not force a sale but I ended up buying because of him. So much better service than high street chains staffed by people who don’t really know what they are talking about! Thanks for the great service.
