I booked a test ride from the Brick Lane store on line and arrived on time to give it a go. The store didn’t have a large AD2 available but had a medium ready to ride as well as a large AD1 (which has a different group set and wheels/tyres) which was fair enough, I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect a store to have every model in every size.
Once the bikes were adjusted to height I was able to take them out for short circuits for as long as I needed. A slight mechanical issue was quickly resolved and I was able to get to assess the bike(s) and get the feel for them.
Back at the store we had time to chat about the models, discuss requirements and options.
Was never once pressured and in fact, as my intention was to decide on colour particularly later, a sale was never pursued - I’ll be ordering online later today!
Staff were super helpful and the after sale support I’ll have with my new bike is really reassuring.
Shop is also beautiful and full of lovely bikes and accessories, what more could you want?
It lacks safety built-in feature in gear design. Often when I cycle up the hill and try to switch its gear, the chain gets off. Once I put the chain back in, I cannot cycle up the hill and must carry it. Then, for some time I cannot switch my gear as it gets stuck. Few minutes/hours later for some reasons, I suddenly can switch its gear. Few times my chain got off on a busy road. I was lucky I did not have an accident until now.
Temple did have a look at the bike for free. Their feedback was that I should not cross my chain and clean it.
They further have sent me to their partner, Fettle. Fettle has cycled the bike up the hill and confirmed that the chain does get off but when “you do something wrong with it”!
Temple has offered to change the gear at their own cost to the ones they have at lower price range. It means changing the value of the bike from £1885 to £900 and me losing £1000. I had to decline the offer.
Selling this bike is difficult because the lifetime warranty is not transferrable!
You must review their return policy as Temple does not take any responsibility for the product once it was delivered.
A super reliable bike should be able to take an average user with poor cycling skills up the hill at least for a short distance. And, if not, then it should have been written on website.
