Lovely inside. But the food was under par. My partner got the steak pie and chips. And for nearly 19.00 it was mediocre. I had the pulled pork burger with chips. Not the best chips but the tomato ketchup seemed to be homemade which was lovely. Not a bit of salad in site. Overall it was ok but not worth the money they charge.

What an absolute gem of a pub!
Their drinks selection is superb and the food we ordered was simply divine.

This place has a remarkable history and I am just relieved it was brought back from dereliction into its current aspect.

5/5 🌟

The waiter, George was amazing. As we're the other FOH staff. Sadly we were let down massively by the food. As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry for over a decade I know what cheap food looks like. Considering the price point on the food I really did expect so much better. The fleece burger... burnt, I literally hit it off the table to demonstrate to our lovely waiter how badly burnt it was. The vegan "supreme" burnt and generally terrible. The chips on all three meals were clearly frozen bought in and just awful. I am very saddened as I have witnessed this pub go through many reincarnations and finally thought it'd finally reached enlightenment... maybe not. Please lower your your prices because its not worth that much at all.

Again I should say George and the other FOH were wonderful.

We’re returning customers who were expecting quite a lot since our last visit was so good. Unfortunately, the wait was 1hr, the wait staff didn’t want to check on our food, and when the food got there it was very average. The mushy peas had no colour, the steak and ale pie seemed microwaved and it had thawed edges from being kept in a fridge. I have to say the batter on the onion rings and the fish made the food slightly better, but overall, I would come back but not so soon.

Went to this pub on 17/10 to finish our long weekend away. Absolutely lovely pub with a really nice vibe! Staff were lovely and helpful and the food was amazing 😍 I enjoyed reading about the history of the Inn as well which was a nice touch. The raspberry gin was amazing and so was the lamb shank.
The only slight feedback I'd give is the menu was slightly faded and difficult to read in some places. Not the end of the world and I know the menu was keeping with the theme but might need tweeking in the long run.
Very happy and will return in the future. Thanks again 😊

Called in without prior booking, 1pm managed to find a table for 2 near the wood burner. Had to prompt waitress to take our order for drinks.. Opted for 2 traditional beef Sunday lunches. 45 minutes wait, plate was already covered in gravy (should have known to ask for separate) however it was very tasty, small portions of Vegetables, ample slices of beef, medium pudding 2 roast potatoes, blob of mash. £15.50 each. 1 medium Shiraz Glass of Tap water £39 in total. En route to ladies loo discovered just how many tables there is, plenty of space at the back. Needs more staff. Losing custom because of the wait.

A great old pub in Kendal town centre. Parts of it date back to the 1600s. We dropped in for lunch, traditional pub fayre with a few vegan options. We plumped for the vegan version of Cumberland sausage and mash with peas and lashings of gravy, yum. Our little girl went for the stone-baked vegan Margarita pizza which she thoroughly enjoyed. Good food, good beer and a great family friendly atmosphere.

We had a lovely dinner here on our first night in Kendal for a weekend away. The food was delicious and the mulled wine was the best I’d had in a while. It was super busy so glad we booked! The poor waitress looked absolutely run off of her feet but she was super efficient and really lovely! Only thing we will say is if you book online and put down a deposit make sure you let the staff know or you won’t get it back, we didn’t realise until we got home that it hadn’t been taken off of the bill and in the small print on the email it says you have to mention it to them. Other than a great place for a pub lunch or dinner!
