An absolute gem of a place! I didn’t know it existed until someone mentioned it on social media. A lovely place to wander around and the cafe is friendly and inviting. The grounds are dog friendly (so long as they behave as there is livestock). Parking may be a bit of an issue on busy days.

Recent visit to Mavisbank when very helpful local mentioned Penicuik House.
Large parkland with many walks and gorgeous house to view all with the Pentlands looming in the background. Definately worth a visit.

Lovely ruin of an old stately house that was destroyed in a fire, with extensive grounds good for walks

A lovely walk to reach the house & you can really get a feel for the house from the outside. Nice walk back to Penicuik too past a small lake with swans & through a field with some Highland cows too. It's free to visit too.
