Only came in for lunch so can't comment on the rooms. Food & service were top notch however. Had the Steak & Guinness pie which was really tasty and chock full of steak. Served with fresh carrots and tasty chips. All washed down with a cracking pint of Mighty Oak ale. Shame I couldn't stay for an afternoon sessions. Lovely place, great food, great beer, great service. 👍

Stumbled across this place by accident whilst waiting for a flight from Stansted. The landlady was super nice, couldn’t do enough for you! Treated my little 2 year old so well. Locals so friendly and helpful! Will definitely pop down again soon 🤩

I have driven past the sign for this inn for years. Finally got round to having lunch here and it was well worth it. Good food. Unpretentious and tasty. Recommended.

We were early for an appointment in Thaxted so thought we’d pop in here for a cheeky pint (as you do!) - and it was lovely. We had the dogs so sat outside, we think we would have been alright with them inside, but thought the dogs would prefer to sit under there marquee.

The chap serving was brilliant and popped out to check on us as well. Very friendly, will be making a point of popping back at some point and having something to eat.

P.S - My daughter wants the weird big wooden seat thing. It was very comfortable!

My Dad stayed here as he'd travelled to meet me for a weekend break. His room was a little dated but other than the aesthetics it was fit for purpose. A comfy bed, a hot shower and he was happy.

The staff here were fantastic, extremely friendly and always happy to help. We stayed for some food one night and had a couple of lovely burgers which went down great with a crisp fresh pint. We'd go back so thanks guys.

What a lovely quaint pub and hotel. The room is perfect for the overnight stay that we needed. We had a couple of drinks in the pub which is a beautiful 1600s old English pub and to top it off the owners could not have been more accommodating. We will definitely be back with the family for something to eat.

After a long journey,my wife, her elderly father and I,needed somewhere to rest overnight to be fresh to attend a family wedding. This lovely old inn was perfect, the hostess went out of her way to provide for our every need.'Swift half' in the bar, became an evening with the friendly local regulars, excellent ale (,I had to have a few more to be certain'), delicious evening meals,
Good nights sleep, in the comfortable rooms, topped off with a super breakfast ! Only regret, We only had one night in this 'home from home'.
