We had a one night stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Beautiful old building well preserved. The staff are friendly and helpful. Bar is well stocked with a decent selection of ales. If you are in search of a silent room and a double walk-in power shower, this not for you. The building is 600 years old, the floors creak and it's very tricky modernising a listed property. Our room had a few cobwebs but was clean and living in similar age of property we're aware of the challenges. We loved the stay and the room. The only criticism was the Arnold Bennett omelette at breakfast as adding cheese and haddock to a regular omelette, doesn't make it an Arnold Bennett, so I have docked a star on service. We fully recommend the Mermaid Inn and will return.

Beautiful surroundings, close to all amenities. The venue itself is stunning, bursting with character and set on cobblestones feeling like you have gone back in time. Rooms each have their own character and are said to be haunted. Interesting history here. Staff are friendly and food is nice.

What a charming hotel! We stayed at The Mermaid for four nights in early September and loved it. The history was fascinating. The staff were wonderful – highly motivated, very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Always obliging and, in spite of some of our slightly off the cuff requests, nothing seemed to be too much trouble and they managed to make us feel quite special. The hotel covered all aspects of hospitality – service, amenities, cleanliness, cuisine and ambience.
There is much to do in the historic town of Rye – we walked everywhere which was great - we didn’t need transport of any variety. We explored the history and culture of the area, and sampled the tourist delights of eateries / coffee houses / gift shops / galleries. Plenty to sample
It was a delightful adventure!

Lovely ambience. The place has a lot of history and it shows in the architecture. It’s over 600 years old! I’ve been twice now for the experience and enjoyed it both times. Menu is a bit limited and above average. But the ambience and excellent service makes up for it. I would go ahead and may actually stay overnight.

Exceptionally helpful and friendly staff. Not just a hotel, a wonderful experience with a four-poster, very comfortable bed, and beautifully cooked dinner with fantastic flavours. A memorable occasion in this historic inn, built in the 12th century, and rebuilt in 1420. Many of the original features remain. Many famous people have stayed here. A really special place to stay.

The whole experience at the hotel was lovely. The quickness & history is the hotel created a lovely experience. The dinner was really good & good wine list. At breakfast there was a small variety of continental pastries & meat, cheese. No gost but had a good night's rest. Highly recommended if history is your thing.

First time eating at the Mermaid. Did not disappoint. The place drips with well-documented history. Stunning. New Year's Day lunch was a good old English roast with all the trimmings. Beautifully cooked, efficiently served and at a reasonable price for a two course meal that came to under £35.
Will visit again! Soon! :)
