Where do I start. This had been booked and paid for a week prior to our arrival. We were using it as a stop off on route to Scotland having visited family locally.
We had travelled up from Lincoln. We were warmly welcomed by the young front of house staff (2030L) and were shown up to our room via a very narrow staircase.

On going up we both noticed that there were cleaning materials left out and 4 laundry bags left on the landing/corridor. This was a concern due to en reaching the means of escape and later was suggested to e moved.
Our room was less than adequate and fifthly. It hadn't been cleaned and we asked to be moved, we should have left and requested a refund. We were offered a twin room over the other side of the hotel. On transiting through, we passed through what can only be described as a function room being used as a storage facility.
An unacceptably large amount of furniture and combustible materials being literally stored.

The room doors didn't have any smoke seals and the fire action plans didn't seem sufficient either. The room we ended up with was still less than ideal and the kettle still had water in it. The sink was broken so didn't drain properly as the plug mechanism was damaged amd didn't have a serviceable plunger system..

We declined breakfast and having had a really poor sleep we ventured off to Scotland. My wife returned unwell and tested positive on Sunday tea time for Covid. Whilst it can't be proven, I'm pretty sure that stay here contributed to that or its where she picked it up from. The cleanliness was beyond sufficient and there were only 3 staff on. One front of house, one chef and one cleaner, were were advised that the management were off for a week. And their working hours were 10-2pm.

Highly un recommended. We should not have stayed and requested a refund. Steer clear of this, what looks like a loved place but is disgusting and no, leave it well alone.

We stayed over the bank holiday weekend. I am going to say it once - DO NOT STAY THERE. First thing we have noticed, is that the bedsheets had not been changed. They have a lipstick stain on, and two different hair entangled in the bedsheets. Disgusting, but the staff member came straight away and was polite, and changed them straight away. It was not the best bedsheet change though and we have to fix the bungled bedsheets. Secondly, we also had to ask her to hoover. The staff member brought poor old tired Henry with no attachment on the hose, so the carpet got some good hose smacking - aw my gawd. Obviously, it was not the Hoovering of the Year, but both of the instances can be forgiven for £60. The next morning (before 9 o'clock), we were getting dressed, and the same staff member comes in to the room. No knocking, no warning. I was undressed and had to dive under the bedsheets like a superwoman. The staff opened the door with her keys, saw my partner looking at her shocked, and just left. The person didn't bother to apologise or to lock the door. We just left that morning and we were speechless. I was not expecting Ritz but the utter invasion of privacy and the lack of any sort of decorum, or apologies is just beyond me. The owner will say we 'caught them at the bad time' - like for any other negative comment. This place, it seems, does not change, staff is not trained, or doesn't care and the service is below poor. Pay extra £10 and stay somewhere nicer where you won't be peeped on.

From the outside this hotel looks OK inside its soulless. The receptionist who booked us in was welcoming. To reach our room we had to walk through an area which was being used to store furniture from another hotel which had closed down. We stayed in room 2 and it wasn't great. Overall it was clean but there were about 50 pieces of blu tack dotted all over the ceiling. The carpet was in need of a giid clean. There was no plug for the sink in the miniscule ensuite and the shaver light wasn't working. The pillows were poor quality and flat. After finishing a drink in the bar I noticed black sludge in the bottom of the glass which I can only assume was from dirty pipes. Good choice of food at breakfast. Sausages were processed but at £7.50 it was good value. We only saw two staff members the whole time. They were doing everything from manning the reception, cooking and serving food, serving at the bar and cleaning.

Stayed here a few times in the last few years it is soulless but for what we need and the price it suits us but not any more, we received an email the evening before telling us there would be no kitchen facilities. Would have liked breakfast wasn't bothered about dinner as we go out and meet up with friends. No alternative cold breakfast was offered either, don't need a kitchen for that !! Had to pay on arrival which I queried and asked about a discount, lovely young girl who'd only been there for a week, no one else there to talk too, not her fault. We stay in room 4 as there's only three steps which suits my husband it was clean and tidy defiantly needs a new mattress, the sink plug didn't work the toilet flush button was missing towel rail didnt work so had to dry towls in the room and the television was very precarious on the wall and my husband had to balance it so it wouldn't fall off, the hairdryer didn't work. No one in reception most of the time just a number to ring which was never answered. Left dryer in room with a note to exchange came back that evening still there as no room service, all three days !!! The function room was full of unused old furniture, mattresses etc. This hotel certainly needs looking into !!

We stayed over Tuesday evening for a friend's wedding, when we turned up and noticed letters missing from the sign; we thought "oh god what have we let ourselves in for here"

Truthfully, one of the best stays I've ever had anywhere in terms of staff. What is lacking in amenities (no bar/restaurant), the staff make up for in leaps and bounds, they could not do more for you if they tried. From early check in (I'm talking 4 hours early), to bringing us an iron and ironing board within minutes of us saying we were there for a wedding, to the down right pleasant demeanor from every staff member I came across from us arriving at 11am to falling through their doors at 11pm.

They lose 1 star because our extraction fan actively screamed (it sounded like a bird dying), which, when the mrs woke up for a wee at 3am, resulted in us both having to wake up, get out of bed & slap the extractor fan until it stopped making the noise. Not ideal when trying to sleep off a hangover, but, for the price, definitely not something I'd complain about. We'd be back in a heartbeat if we're ever in a Thirsk again

This was an inexpensive Hotel, very dated, shower a bit wonky, no kitchen, stuff all over the place. But lovely staff comfy bed. So I wouldn't recommend for more than one night at the moment.

We've stayed in Oyo White Horse hotel for a couple of days as it was a perfect location to reach Sutton Bank. We really enjoyed how friendly and cosy it was, no problems at all, quiet and peaceful and we had a lovely view as well. Also really warm which was perfect especially after our long hike. Many thanks!
