Didn't stay there, just went for lunch. Menu disappointing at lunchtime but not much better in the evening. Service perfunctory. Location absolutely stunning and well worth a drive, long walk or train ride. The location demands a much better menu and service. Still worth stopping for tea and scones though. Enjoy!

Location is great but surprised it's in the good beer guide. Only one ale available that was quite average. Would maybe have scraped a 4 star if it wasn't for unfriendly barman.

Certainly a stunning location with River Dee tumbling over rocks at the front - right up to the outside seating areas. Behind is the towpath of the Llangollen Canal with solid rock faces from which the canal itself was carved. Inside the hotel is beautiful with period pieces of furniture in every public area. Inside too it is all on one level which made it easy to manoeuvre my wife's wheelchair.
We were warned by the hotel that they didn't have a fully accessible room, we were alloted one in an annexe - stepping out of our door straight onto the towpath meant we could make the lovely walk along to the Horseshoe falls, the weir designed by Telford to take water from the river into the canal.
However the room was very small, and rather scruffy. We took our own seat for the shower for my wife, and a small portable step to aid getting into the shower. So you do need some mobility if you book this room.
By far the worst aspect was the smell - an all pervasive, overpowering smell of damp and wet, either because they room was never aired or this is the result of its position between the river and canal. We asked for an air freshener, but they had none, and promised to report it to the manager but nothing happened. The next day we were straight out to purchase a spray and diffusers. Gradually over the days we spent there the smell penetrated our clothing so was with us wherever we went. On our return home it was everything in the wash or to the dry cleaners !
We ate one meal here, all microwaved instant dishes so the rest of the week we sought out other places.

Only called in for coffee. Fabulous setting by the river Dee. Staff were very friendly,. Lovely interior, we sat outside with great views and autumn colour. Would love to have a stay here.

Absolute dream of a place!!
Been wanting to stop here for a good while, glad we did too!
If you like walks, wild water and location this is for you, it can be a challenge though...
Staff really nice and helpful, room, wow! Drink prices (typical for a hotel) but, fine.
Food, okay, but, needs a rethink...
Disappointed that certain items aren't on the menu, certainly breakfast, choice limited , why no cereal or fruit even?
A Steak or Eggs Benedict per say...
Some item's first class, ie. Pie's & Snacks.
But, must say, both meals & breakfasts were very good, and the portions more than adequate...
Definitely look into visiting again, it's a gem that needs to shine...
Loved it!!

We were allocated a mini-suite on the top floor. Huge amount of space, choice of inside or balcony seating areas from which to view the incredible scenery. It would be hard to equal this view. Excellent food, delightful staff and a stunning location.

A nice hotel in a stunning location with the white water rapids of the river Dee rushing under the chainbridge. Gemma showed amazing customer service, from the start she was attentive and very friendly. I had a meal and coffee, and while the food was good, it was Gemma that made the experience outstanding, with her friendliness and excellent customer service. I would definitely recommend it.

Absolutely wonderful spot with fantastic terrace overlooking the chain bridge and the river below

I've only stopped over for a Sunday roast ( super tasty ) and a few beers on my walk back to Llangollen

Definitely be back when in the area again
