With people they know, they're not too bad, but try as I might to be cheery and friendly Miss M is having none of it. Doesn't reply to a simple greeting, makes no eye contact, doesn't even answer a straight question such as 'do I put this parcel on the scales?'. Just takes said parcel and prints receipt with no dialogue at all. Some while ago Mr M made a comment how I was 'very lucky' not to pay postage for returns to a certain well known online shopping co. Miss M on the other hand just tuts and makes exaggerated facial gestures to show her opinion (head back, raised eyebrows, rolling of eyes) I've had the lot! In fact I am so cheesed off I make special journeys now to other Post Offices out of my way to avoid continually coming away with a feeling as if I have been slapped across the face! If she bothered to actually speak to me, I could explain that I work for said company!!!
Steve, Deb and Julia are polite, have excellent social skills, and most importantly are extremely professional and want to do a good job.
The village of Alphington is very fortunate to have a totally refitted bright and airy Post Office / Newsagents / Convenience store in one ground floor shop that serves the whole community. All the team work well together, maximising on each others strengths and skills, in the endeavour to build the business up, so that it can survive.
The hours they are open to the public are superb and their friendly approach is much appreciated by the many new customers who visit the Post Office.
On a personal basis I find it very useful to be able to get cash in the right denominations for my 88 year old mother in law, who does not feel comfortable using an ATM machine. The ability to pay cheques in is very useful. They also have a particularly good range of greeting cards.
I genuinely hope this business grows financially because they deserve to do well. Their personal touch is a unique selling point; they always do their best to oblige and you can't ask for more than that!
I use the "click and drop" service from Royal Mail and the lady, Debbie I believe, was having trouble to process my parcels and started muttering that it would be so much easier if I just paid for postage in store rather than doing it at home. She then handed my parcels back, blaming me for "having done it wrong". I had to go to another post office where they happily processed my parcels with no issues at all! Avoid going to this post office, if given the option.
Excellent place to pull in and visit a lovely shop and post office
