we have been using this vet since the 1980s . We've always owned German Shepherds, i can tell you "ALL " that this man and his sweet wife "LOVE" animals, i mean seriously ! love & care about the animals they treat, sadly we had to have two of our beloved German Shepherds put to sleep . Oscar at 7 yrs old three years ago after he developed cardiomyopathy, and just over a month ago our beautiful 3 year old German Shepherd Luger was cruelly struck with insulinoma ( pancreatic cancer) and tragically had to be put to sleep, this dear man stood their with me and my wife on both of these terrible events and cryed his eyes out with us! 100% truth . and i say this to all that read this review. we have a new boy now and yes he's a German Shepherd :-) and both myself and my wife will be placing "Kaiser "in the care of these two wonderful people at Ancare. we have suffered terribly at the hands of two other vets on the one occasion we used another vet four years ago with Oscar ( he fell ill at a weekend ). this the vet practis i won't name here ripped us off then referred us to its sister company not too far from the cricket ground ??? and they fleeced us blind to the tune of 6 grand!!! and we ended up at Ancare in the end anyway ....sadly too late for Oscar, i wish we had gone to ancare to start with. i will never make that mistake AGAIN ! Ancare is the only one for us! and indeed our new pup........ Look out Ancare Kaiser's on his way :-)

Very friendly and helpful family run surgery. This vet has great patience with my large dog who does not like to stand still for his injections. This vet also has helped me issue Pet Passports for my dogs. Again, very helpful finding an appointment to suit my travel needs.

Could not recommend this vet practice enough. Lovely small, independent practice. You can really tell that they care deeply for the animals, and the cost of care is both affordable and reasonable compared to other places I have been to. For example, pet checkups have been free for us. We've been able to get an appointment quickly and the care has been excellent. Our cat was very sick for several months (seemed to love this vet, which was odd of him!) and they made sure that only treatment that was absolutely necessary was done to minimise the stress and harm on our cat. They were also incredibly kind and upset on our behalf when we decided to put our cat down as his CKD progressed; could not be more grateful of the hard work they do.

My cat was spayed in this surgery recently and I have only good things to report. Firstly. they were prompt with appointments. Secondly, their prices are reasonable. Much more reasonable than anything else in Canterbury. Thirdly, my cat was treated perfectly and with a lot of care. She healed within no time! I highly recommend this vet and wished I would have known before about them. Definitively, the best vet in Canterbury!

If you have a guide dog, or wish to take your dog overseas, please keep in mind that although they are really nice people they are very disorganized. We have had some issues where my girlfriends guide dog was given a vaccine that only lasts 2 years (proper one should last 3-5 at least), we were given inaccurate advice regarding worming tablets as well as being told the pet passport only lasts 2 years (it lasts indefinitely or until the paper is full). My girlfriend also had an appointment with the vets for 6 once but when she arrived was told that the vet couldn't do anything as he was bitten earlier on in the day. This is fair enough however she was not called in advance to let us know this which she really should have been.

Needless to say we are quite disappointed and have changed vets.

A suggestion for improvement would be if they adopted a computer system for their records, it may help with this.

Mr Sanyal is a household name amongst my kin. He's saved several of our animals when other vets had either written them off or given ridiculous quotes. The surgery is calm and peaceful and animals seem to actually enjoy being there. This is the only vets that my dogs would enter freely whilst wagging their tails. Top chap.

DO NOT GO TO THIS VETS IF YOU WANT YOUR ANIMAL TO LIVE. They didn’t notice that my cat was extremely ill, they put him on antibiotics and told me he was getting better when they should have really given him an x-ray the second time, I took him back 3 times as I knew something wasn’t right but dr sanyal lied to me and said that my pet was fine and looking back now I can now see the dishonesty and uncertainty in his face. They failed to give me 24hr emergency service when my cat was dying, at the time it stated that they are a 24hr emergency vets on their website and on the pet leaflets I was given... and they refused to help in an emergency situation...they failed to pick up the phone urgently!! it took many calls to get through to them and they didn’t care at all. Whenever my cats had a check up they were not weighed or checked over just stroked and in his words were ‘fine because they were young’ if you’re reading this dr sanyal I hope you feel ashamed of yourself and you don’t deserve to be a vet. I’d rate this vet a -10 star if it had the option.

We have use this family practice for 21 years , he is caring , professional and our dogs are comfortable with him . although we have used other vets before we had never found one that put the animal first and thinks about the quality of life the animal has or will have.
