The Speech House

Original hunting lodge with loads of period features made the place feel perfect for the central forest setting. Our courtyard ground floor room perfect for easy access to the car park. Family room with dividing wall gave perfect privacy. Very comfy beds, double with a canopy made birthday girls feel like a princess. Loads of storage and good size bathroom (shower cubical for 1 not large modern walk in style)
The orangery conservatory dinning was very light and airy (even in a heat wave) walk in dinner perfect to avoid forced timing of booking. (6-9pm) The pork belly was superb.
Breakfast included continental selection and hot buffet style English breakfast.
The staff were brilliant. They accommodated a birthday request of Buck’s Fizz and a candle with perfect execution.
Speaking with everyone from the chamber maids, bar staff, chef, reception staff and night porter all were beyond helpful and welcoming. Can tell they were happy and even explained how staff can have meals for their families in these hard times provided by the hotel. Just wonderful.
I will be back.

Stopped at the Orangery for a light supper after a walk around the arboretum. Husband had the garlic mushrooms and goat cheese pizza, said he'd most happily return to have again. I enjoyed a tuna sandwich, basic but done right. Lovely to see they allow dogs in, and everyone respected everyone else by ensuring their own dogs were well behaved. Fair pricing; 10" pizza, sandwich with plenty of filling plus a salad and crisps garnish, pint of pale ale, a lemonade then a house gin and lemonade for £26)

Lovely 17th century hunting lodge turned hotel. Walk across the road and you're in the beautiful forest of Dean
Food is very good, much better than expected, staff are friendly and helpful. We had our dog whi h meant we stayed in courtyard room which was fine but lacked some basic refinements a little TLC needed. I would come here again.

We had our wedding here and couldn't have asked for a perfect venue with amazing food that captured the essence of what life in the Forest is truly like. Such a quaint venue with rich history and amazing staff, all on hand with giving us such an epic day.

Bridal Suite was perfect and our other guests who had a variety of other rooms were very satisfied with what was on offer. Nothing better than a half cut walk in the woods at 2AM!

Aside from that, Speech House also look after us whenever we have our Lions events - the annual fireworks and Wild Boar Chase area always a winner.

So great to have such a wonderful place locally!

We stayed just the one night as we were going to the Festival in the hotel grounds.
A very friendly welcome, comfortable clean rooms and out meal in the conservatory was excellent.
Will definitely be staying again.

Absolutely beautiful hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was perfect for a short stay.
There are 2 different ‘restaurants’ at the hotel with a few different options so make sure you pack a smart outfit to try the Verderers fine dining. I noticed they also do afternoon tea which I will definitely be back to try!
The continental breakfast also had everything you could ever think of! Could not fault the speech house at all. It was such a great weekend away.

We got married at speech house end of September 2022 and I really couldn’t recommend it more! The staff and wedding planner was so accommodating and kept us up to date all the way through! The food was absolutely delicious on the day and not once did I feel rushed or concerned on the big day which is every brides biggest fear!
Thank you for making our special day even better than we could have dreamed for! Just simply a gorgeous wedding venue! 💒

Comfortable stay in a Courtyard Double room - smallish, but cosy and warm, more than adequate for a few nights stay.
Food good (we ate in the Orangery). Great service (Emily gets a special mention for her friendliness). Lovely position in Forest of Dean.
