On first appearance the room looked very nice, French doors onto a small balcony, with a view of a lovely lake. Apart from the doors didn't lock. Room was clean, until I found an old pizza box on top of the wardrobe, I recon it was there for at least a couple of weeks. The toilet roll holder broke off the wall, when I reported it, I was told that the maintenance guy wasn't available until next week. So not a great service on that front, the room I would give 4/10. If the door was lockable and the pizza box was removed, this would be a 6.
The room key, well the last time I actually had a hotel 'key' must have been 20 years ago. I think its about time for a refurb.
The restaurant, now this is a different story to the main hotel.
The food, excellent. Service very good. IPA from the bar 10/10. I'm normally a picky eater, but here no issues.

Syede /Robin the bar man was fabulous, he was so lovely and talkative. He catered all of our needs and made us all laugh. Other staff weren’t so great, he was definitely the best. Get him a pay rise! :)

From the outside the hotel looks great. Inside is a different matter, very dated dirty and humid. It seems to be stuck in a time warp from the late 80’s and it shows. The bathroom was awful. There was a black remanence of some sort left in the bath and was quite grubby. I E ent to have a shower in the morning when I discovered Silverfish crawling about in the bathroom. The beds were dirty and stained, not nice. If you’re desperate.. it’ll do. Food on offer was very limited.

I see many comments the place is dated. Maybe so but still very presentable. Room was clean and came with balcony overlooking the lake which was great. Staff have been very friendly and the breakfast was good as was the evening meal. So dated maybe but many more years of service this hotel is capable off.

Clean room and public areas. Pleasant surroundings and friendly professional staff who were polite but professional and greeted you with a smile. Maitre D Sayed was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for him. He gave his undivided attention when speaking with you but remained vigilant and watchful of all that was going on around. It was clear on speaking with him he was proud to be employed at Lakeside and took even greater pride in his work. Food was excellent and plentiful. All in all a very enjoyable stay help in no short measure by tbe attention to detail given by Sayed
Only criticism was the lack of toiletries, handcream, shower cap and bath robe in the room.

Unfortunately I had to give 1 star due to the receptionist being fairly nice.

We booked 2 months in advance for a double deluxe room for £94. On arrival we were told they no longer have the key for the room and that we now have the choice to sleep in our car (probably the better option) or to have a standard twin room for £84. After all of this, we finally get in our room where we are greeted with sweet wrappers all over the floor and the beautiful smell of cigarette smoke that really gave me the feeling of a “lovely” hotel.

To top all of this off, after a hard long day, I go to shower and I’m over the moon to see mould all around the shower.

I highly recommend for anyone looking for a hotel nearby to avoid this place at all costs. 1/5 is a generous statement.

It’s a shame as the building is lovely in a great location but it is being run into the ground.
It truly is the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. The staff were rude apart from the kitchen assistant who, in my opinion, is taking complete advantage of by most of the staff. I commented on the rubbish strewn across the car park and to my astonishment the house keeper ushered the kitchen assistant outside to pick up all of the rubbish. Absolutely disgusting. If you don’t believe me then check it out yourself. The owner of this hotel needs to know what is going on here but when asked for the owners details I was only given the hotels address.

On first arrival we were greeted by something out of Crossroads... Less Benny, and instead a pot smoking porter. The somewhat dated appearance of the hotel was beautifully reminiscent of the Overlook Hotel less two small girls dressed in white. Our first room had a beautiful water feature gushing from the ceiling, however the second room sporting its British Arm green decor was most welcome. Our balcony provided an amazing view of a mud filled lake and was a nostalgic journey to horror stories past as we watched fish attempting to escape the water for fear of oxygen deprivation. The sweet aroma of cigarette smoke filled the hallways as we wandered hopelessly down corridors that provided a feeling of steerage class on the titanic. This is a sinking ship to be avoided. The They did change the bed sheets... So one star 😎
