Lovely setting. Helpful staff. We bookef a table for 1pm but did not receive our food until after 2pm. Roast beef excellent. For some reason our starters arrived at the same time as our main course!

Very comfortable bed and well equipped bathroom with huge shower, the food was very well presented and tasted beautiful. I loved that you could take a seat in different rooms around the bar rather than 1 big seating area, huge beer garden with foosball and table tennis! Every room is decorated tastefully and the views are outstanding from the car park

We stayed for a birthday weekend and it was exceptional!
Beautiful room, very clean and cosy.
Staff very friendly and welcoming. Delicious food and very nice breakfast with lots of choices, hot and cold.
Also there is some nice outdoors to walk with beautiful views. Highly recommend!
We had the best time. Thank you Bear Team! 🐻

A lovely hotel right on the ancient common. Great walks. The restaurant was very good and I've never had a better breakfast. A good bar but it had closed by 10.50 on a Friday night!? Something seriously wrong there. Staff were great. Very nice rooms.

What a spectacular location. The welcome was really friendly. The rooms are compact but functional. No lift could be a problem for some. My room was on the 3rd floor which was a bit of a climb but we'll worth it for the view. Really enjoyed our stay.

Went for Sunday lunch, had the steak which came with roast potatoes cooked in goose fat, cauliflower cheese, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, cabbage and Yorkshire pudding…was the best Sunday lunch I’ve had anywhere. Everything cooked to perfection and the flavours were amazing. Would highly recommend.

Very British pub. Cozy atmosphere and decent selection of drinks. Good indoor and outdoor seating, if you like dogs this is the pub for you. (Not a fan)

I ordered the fish and chips, the batter was light and crispy and very delicious. The fish tasted fresh and the chips were very tasty.

The curry sauce on the side was quite watery and needed more flavour and the mush peas weren’t for me. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

We wanted a short break away so chose The Bear as it was near Stroud and not too far to reach by road from where we live. The room was spacious, clean and with good quality tea & coffee bags. We had our dog with us, and he got some sausage for breakfast. Stroud had a farmers market on the Saturday we were there, and this was an interesting venue with lots of tasty treats available. The local shops are mostly independent so far more interesting than the usual chains.
We thoroughly enjoyed our mini break and would recommend the hotel and Stroud for anyone looking to explore this area.
